Lauri Ruuska’s overall performance was strong in the Nordic League Winter Series played in Spain in February and March. He made the cut in all four tournaments of the series taking home three top8 finishes, two of which were top3.
In the Ecco Tour Spanish Masters played on March 5-7, Lauri scored the lowest number of his career 62 in the final round bringing him to -5 total and T8 spot. His excellent level of performance continued in the next tournament, PGA Catalunya Resort Championship played on March 9-11. He finished T2 with a -9 total losing to Danish Jeppe Huldahl only by one shot.
Lauri was pleased with his result after a tough final round: “It was a pretty bad day from the tee for me and I had work hard to keep the result below par. Fortunately, my putter was hot giving me a chance to win. Overall, it was a good tournament in many ways, and it was nice to be able to play for the win”, he comments.
After the Winter Series, Lauri is fourth in the Nordig League rankings. The top five players will earn a Challenge Tour card for next season.
Lauri will next head to Portugal for a few days to do some training and play one of the Portugal Pro Golf Tour competitions. “My coach David da Silva and some of my SGA team mates will also come to Portugal. It is the final stage of my pretty heavy two-month winter season. In April there will not be any tournaments, so I will have a chance to rest a little.”
