First win on Finnish Junior Tour for Wilma Merenmies

SGA’s Wilma Merenmies has won the FJT Invitational played on 13.-14.6 at Kullo Golf club. In addition to being her first win on FJT, this was a major achievement for Wilma also because almost all of the Team Finland Challenger Group’s girls were participating and the winner got World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) points.

Wilma has been a member of the SGA for many years. Currently she is studying and playing at the Oklahoma Christian University on a golf scholarship.

Very happy and proud about her achievement, Wilma describes the course of the competition: “After returning from the States I have been practicing in Nordcenter with the SGA almost every day and was ready and determined to go for the win. It was a three-round tournament, two rounds on the first day and one on the second. I hit the ball well both days and got a lot of birdie opportunities. The last round I played in the leader group and we had a few people following us throughout the round. Earlier that would have given me a little stress, but this time I played confidently for the win. It was a great feeling to win against the best players in the country! Big thanks for my success go to my coaches David Silva and Niklas Dahlgren.”
