AJ Lintunen’s second college win this season

Last week was a good week for SGA’s AJ Lintunen. He is a part of the University of Tennessee Chattanooga team and this is his senior year. Playing the Sea Palms Invitational at St. Simon’s Island, Georgia the team placed 5th with AJ winning individually. This is his second win of the season. Rounds 70, 69, 72 got him 3 shots ahead of the second place.

“The course was really nice and in great shape for this time of the year. Weather has a big impact on how the course plays. This time it was super windy for the last two days, as the scores might indicate. I hit the ball great all week tee to green. I didn’t make any big mistakes but couldn’t get putts to drop. On the last day, I wasn’t too worried because the weather was brutal. I knew that if I just kept hitting it well and making pars, I’d be in good shape. This time it was enough”, says AJ.

When asked how Covid has impacted the season AJ said: “This season has been different for sure with covid impacting our tournament schedule and playing. We don’t play with members of other teams in the same groups, instead only with our own teammates. This is very weird but at least we get to play!”

After the tournament AJ is placed 878th on the World Amateur Golf Ranking.

Dominic Jones, who is AJ’s teammate, played at the same tournament as well. Due to swing work being done at the moment, his scoring wasn’t as strong. His rounds were 84, 79, 80 placing him 79th.
